Three Things to Remember About the People’s Greenbelt
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 8, 2023
TORONTO, ON — On the eve of the Auditor General’s report on the Greenbelt, there are three important things we need to remember.
“This is just the beginning.”
The Auditor General’s report is the first one to investigate Doug Ford’s move to crack open the People’s Greenbelt. A report from the Integrity Commissioner is still to come and Ontarians can expect a landslide of information detailing the Premier’s decisions in the weeks and months ahead.
“It all started at the top.”
This all began in 2018 when Doug Ford was caught on video promising a room of his rich friends that he would crack open the Greenbelt for development. Over the next four years and two elections, Doug Ford swore to Ontarians that he wouldn’t open up the People’s Greenbelt for development. He knew all along he was going to do it. That’s the deception that has led us to where we are today.
“Follow the money.”
From day one, cracking open the People’s Greenbelt has had the stench of insider trading. It is all about making Doug Ford’s rich friends even richer. It extends past the Greenbelt to places like Ottawa and Hamilton with the expansion of urban boundaries. How is it that some people knew what was going to happen before the decisions were announced?
“Doug Ford is more focused on taking care of his friends than he is on the things that matter most to Ontarians — a health care system they can count on, great schools and a safe and clean environment,” said MPP John Fraser. "Ontarians deserve better."
