QUEEN’S PARK—Team Bonnie is urging Premier Doug Ford to act on his own call for stability by collaborating with opposition parties to protect the province’s economy in the face of looming threats, including tariff measures by incoming US President Donald Trump.
In a recent statement, Premier Ford emphasized the need for stability and unity during a critical time for workers and families. But does he mean it?
Last month, Ontario Liberal Leader Bonnie Crombie wrote to the Premier, calling him to match his rhetoric with action, calling on Ford to recall the Legislature and strike an all-party committee focused on shielding Ontario’s industries from external economic shocks.
“Premier Ford talks about stability, but the real test of leadership is to work together to protect our province,” said John Fraser, MPP for Ottawa South. “We’re calling on the Premier to reconvene the Legislature and take concrete steps to ensure Ontario’s economy is prepared to weather any challenges. It’s time for Ford to match his words with real action. ”
Team Bonnie is also calling for a firm commitment from Ford to maintain Ontario’s fixed election date, ensuring the province remains focused on the economic and social priorities of its residents rather than early election speculation.
“Families and businesses across Ontario want action, not political games. This is a critical moment, and it’s time for leadership that prioritizes people, not partisanship,” Fraser added. “Ford can’t have it both ways, and he needs to get his priorities straight. If he forces an early election despite his calls for stability, under Bonnie’s leadership, Ontario Liberals will be ready to fight that election and to win, in order to bring back a government that delivers more for you.”
