Still No Accountability After $8.3 Billion Payday for PC Party Insiders

QUEEN’S PARK – John Fraser, MPP for Ottawa South and Interim Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, has released the following statement:

“It has been exactly one week since the Auditor General released her scathing report on Doug Ford’s Greenbelt Giveaway, and not one person has lost their job. The public trust was broken, and there has been no accountability after PC Party insiders received an $8.3 billion payday from the government.

“It’s all about the money. This is not about housing – the government’s own task force and the Auditor General confirmed they did not need to touch the Greenbelt to build the housing we need – it’s about secret deals to benefit a few while Ontario families struggle to get by. That’s not right.

“Minister Clark must step aside, and his chief of staff must be let go. It is simply unbelievable that the public trust was broken to give well-connected insiders and PC Party donors an $8.3 billion payday. 

“The government’s assertion that nobody knew anything except for one political staffer is simply unbelievable.

“Premier Ford and Minister Clark are deceiving Ontarians and trying to pull the wool over our eyes. If you need any evidence of that, look at the Minister of Finance's recent press conference, where he knew it was indefensible, and that what was done was not right.

“I am sure there are others around the cabinet table who have that same sinking feeling.”
