Statement from Bonnie Crombie on Doug Ford's Call for Stability

TORONTO, ON—Bonnie Crombie, Leader of Ontario's Liberals, released the following statement in response to Doug Ford's Call for Stability:

“Moments ago, Premier Doug Ford stated: ‘Now more than ever, the interests of Canadian workers and families need to come before political or party ambitions. Canada needs to demonstrate stability and strength at this critical moment.’

"I take him at his word. 

"As I wrote to the Premier last month, now is the time for all parties to come together to protect Ontario’s economy in the face of incoming US President Donald Trump’s tariff threats. 

"So, will Premier Ford heed his own words? 

"Will he join us in our calls for a return to the Legislature and strike an all-party committee to create a true Team Ontario approach?

"Will he commit to our fixed election date and disavow any plans to seek power for power’s sake rather than focusing on the Ontario economy and what real people actually need? 

"This is a time for stability, not political posturing. I hope Doug Ford meant what he said. 

"If he doesn’t stand by his words, rest assured: Team Bonnie will be ready to fight and win an election. 

"But, for the good of this province, over the next few months, we should put partisanship aside and work together to stop — or withstand if necessary — President Trump’s tariffs. That would be the responsible thing to do.”
