Ontario Liberals Propose Ambitious Legislation to Build Towards Housing Affordability
Legislation is the first in a series that accelerates housing supply and eliminates barriers to advancing gentle density provincewide

QUEEN’S PARK, ON – Today, Dr. Adil Shamji, MPP for Don Valley East and the Ontario Liberal Critic for Housing, will introduce The Building Universal and Inclusive Land Development in Ontario Act (BUILD Ontario Act), designed to spur the construction of more homes across our province.
If passed, the BUILD Ontario Act will implement the Housing Affordability Task Force’s (HATF) recommendation to allow up to four residential units and up to four stories to be built as-of-right provincewide on any parcel of urban land that is zoned as “residential.” This will result in more spacious, gentle-density dwellings being built across Ontario for young families, middle-income households, and seniors who are trying to downsize.
