Doug Ford Has Failed on His Promises for Mississauga
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 16, 2025
MISSISSAUGA — Premier Doug Ford will give a speech Thursday at the Mississauga Board of Trade, where he will again promise to deliver three Mississauga priorities he's failed to get done over the last seven years.
Why the sudden change?
Because he knows that the strength of Team Bonnie in this city puts his six Mississauga seats at risk.
Since Bonnie Crombie became the Leader of Ontario’s Liberals, Ford suddenly cares about Mississauga, after years of inaction.
Just before he plans to call a snap and election a year and half before Ontario is scheduled to go to the polls, Ford's flip-flopping on three key issues for this city:
- Asking municipal taxpayers to pay $450 million for the Trillium Health Partners’ Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital. That's 42% more than is being asked of any other community building a new hospital.
- Reinstating the downtown loop on the Hazel McCallion LRT line that he canceled when he was first elected, leaving taxpayers on the hook for a massive increase in costs.
- Finally, funding the “Missing Link” (freight bypass) to boost GO train service in Mississauga after failing to get it done for the last seven years.
“When I was Mayor, these were key initiatives I pushed at the provincial level, but Ford refused to act,” said Bonnie Crombie. “Why now? It's not about you or what's best for Mississauga - if that were the case Ford would have gotten all of this done years ago. No, it's only about him and the fact he will promise anything to save six Mississauga seats. How can we trust him to actually deliver?”
“Instead of doing the right thing, Ford has wasted seven years as healthcare and traffic have only gotten worse in Mississauga under his failed leadership. Not to mention the escalating costs due to years of inaction,” Crombie said. “These projects are the right thing to do for Mississauga, but like always with Ford it's too little, too late and you're stuck picking up the cost of his inaction.
This city knows where I stand: I will always act in your best interests, and I’ll always deliver more for you. ”
