Conservatives’ Bill 60 Prioritizes Profits in New Two-Tier Healthcare System

QUEEN’S PARK – John Fraser, MPP for Ottawa South and Interim Leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, has released the following statement in response to the passing of Bill 60:

“The passing of Bill 60 poses a serious threat to our healthcare system. At a time when our healthcare system is under stress and needs more support, the Ford Conservatives are heading in a different direction, choosing to add more profit into the care that Ontarians receive.

​“What should be of great concern to all Ontarians is that the government’s solution to the healthcare human resources crisis – which will be the biggest ongoing challenge in this province for some time to come – is to set up a parallel system that will compete for the nurses, doctors, and frontline workers that our hospitals and long-term care homes desperately need.

​“There should be only one shareholder when it comes to our healthcare system, and that’s the patient.

​“Ontario Liberals will continue to fight to protect our publicly funded system and to ensure Ontarians have access to the world-class healthcare they need and deserve.”
