Bonnie Crombie Promises to Double ODSP

Ontario’s Liberals commit to permanent relief for those struggling the most in Doug Ford's Ontario during a visit to the Neighbour to Neighbour food bank in Hamilton

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 5, 2025

HAMILTON — Today, Bonnie Crombie, Leader of Ontario’s Liberals, announced her plan to make life more affordable for people with disabilities, by permanently doubling the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) benefits.

“People with disabilities are dying in this province because Doug Ford has neglected to provide the basics,” said Bonnie Crombie. “ODSP rates are so low that people are forced to live in poverty, and rely on food banks just to get by. It’s unacceptable.”

“Keeping people healthy starts with getting them the basics, and that is why as Premier, I will double ODSP. Permanently.”

Nearly half a million people rely on ODSP, which currently provides a maximum of $1,368 per month and has remained nearly stagnant under Doug Ford. It simply isn’t enough to live on, and is $500 less than the average monthly rent in Hamilton. Doug Ford has forced people with disabilities to live in poverty, while giving billions of dollars away to his rich friends. That’s a fact.

Ontario’s Liberals will deliver more for people with disabilities by permanently doubling Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) benefits and indexing it to inflation.

Ontario’s Liberals are focused on getting the basics right for the people of this province: getting a family doctor for everyone, cutting taxes, and building homes people can actually afford. Team Bonnie is ready to deliver real, meaningful relief for the people who need it most – not just Doug Ford's rich friends.
